We had a visit from a rather wet and windy Tropical Storm Rafael this week and he was nice enough to dump 5 days of almost constant rain on us... how thoughtful.
There were some windy conditions as well over the weekend but I am happy to report that we had no major damage at the garden, mostly just leaves and small twigs to clear up so we were lucky... the ground is still pretty sodden though and you KNOW that next week the grass will be up to my knees!
On Monday I was late for work, because when I left the house to cycle to the office it was not raining. Then 2 minutes and half-way down the monster hill of Lampe Weg, the heavens opened again. Now because it was NOT raining when I left the house and it's only a 10 minute bike ride to the office... I had nothing to protect me, not a rain jacket, not even a plastic sack! I had to turn around peddle back UP the horrible hill and change every piece of clothing I had on (I was soaked to the skin!) and towel dry my hair... then I had to don my rain jacket and try again... I spent the rest of the day steam drying in the office... not much fun!
Yesterday we actually closed the office and I worked from home as it was dangerous on the bay road with the water flowing down from town and the debris coming down with it. They had to clear the road of sediment with the digger... luckily we had no damage to the office or buildings so that was good, just a lot of dirt and rubble behind from the cliff.
So all in all, the island is more than just a little damp right now but at least the cisterns are all full!
Much love from the garden on golden rock...
