Donkey-kong

We had a great week in the garden. It was just Lexie and I this week as Sadie is taking some vacation time with her parents that are visiting the island.

We weedwhacked in the phase 1 and all over the children's garden and it's looking really good again. So good that even though we had a Children's garden week scheduled in, by Thursday we were so ahead of ourselves that we decided to switch to a fruit garden day, then we got the call.

Kate: Do you need a break from the garden for the day?
Claire: (suspicious voice) Why, what is you want me to do?
Kate: Well LVV need us to wrangle some Donkeys... they need all the help they can get.
Claire: Hang on, let me just check with Lexie. Hey Lexie, do you want to weedwhack the fruit garden tomorrow or do you want to chase Donkeys all morning.
Lexie: (high pitched squeeling) ********** Are you kidding me? I wanna wrangle DONKEYS!!!!
Claire: Kate, I think that's a yes.

So Thursday morning we ran around the island chasing donkeys into a specially made pen... it was so much fun!! They have the world vets visiting the island over the weekend and they are taking part in an LVV initiative to spay and neuter all the stray donkeys on the island. These donkeys will then be tagged and kept in the pen to stop them from eating all the vegetation and causing damage in people's yards. It is estimated by LVV that there are about 50 donkeys loose on the island and we helped to corral about 30 yesterday so it was good progress.

Maybe we will get one for the garden and I can train it to carry all the garden debris down from the fruit garden for me... yes!!

Much love from the garden on the golden rock... and the donkeys...
