Meno Bakker was good enough to take in our evil cat Vinnie a couple of years ago when his playful attack game turned a little too violent and bloody for most of our volunteers to put up with. It was cute when he was 8 inches long that he would jump out at you and bite your ankles but when he became a fully grown cat and was still launching himself at everyone and latching on to the back of their legs it was time for him to go into therapy. Meno took on the crazy spawn-of-satan and actually managed to work a minor miracle. Although Vinnie will always be a little on the feisty side he is now a much more placid and even loveable little moggy.
Meno left Statia (to be with the woman he loves in Holland) and so Vinnie needed a new home. We decided that since the house at the garden has in recent months become a mouse motel, we would try out his hunting skills and see how he got on living back at the botan.
I am pleased to report to all Vinnie fans that he is doing very well indeed. All the pampering that Meno gave him has really paid off AND there have been no rat sightings since he came home. He immediately set up camp in the back bedroom as we had only 2 interns over Christmas and so we were a little worried he would attack the newbies when they moved into his territory but he has been remarkably well behaved.
He even seems to be getting on with Foxy and so far (touch wood) there have been no scraps between the two of them and they appear to be tolerating each other very well.
I haven't even heard him bark! (for those not familiar with Vinnie, he kind of, well, barks... I think he learnt it from Foxy when he was at the garden before and we all know how much Foxy loves to bark)
Anyway, I will post some pics of him lounging around on his little thrown in the woodpile next week (it's an old office chair but I think it makes him feel important!)
Much love from the garden on the golden rock... and Vinnie...
