Prickly situation

This morning the plan was to weed the windbreak and the flower beds from the car park all the way down to behind the house. It was kind of wet this morning so weedwhacking was out and so it was going to be a nice quiet weeding morning... then someone daft (me) decided what a great idea it would be to get rid of the horrible huge Acacia (said Acosha on Statia) that is growing on top of the windbreak above the pavilion. Now in fairness at 10am this morning it wasn't a good project to start but we did it anyway, we felled the huge, nasty, invasive, prickly, tree that was blocking all the lovely planting on the top of the bed. Now we just had to get rid of it... cutting up this huge tree so that it would fit in the truck took longer than actually cutting it down and so we need to carry on clearing it tomorrow. In the meantime prickles everywhere... luckily we escaped fairly unscathed with only a few minor injuries from this morning's session.

Dan (the main axe-swinging-tree-killer) was stabbed in the arm with a thorn and the tip broke off in there and despite at least 20 minutes of me digging around in his elbow the pesky thorn still eluded capture. We put some cream on it and are now waiting to see if it works it way out… of course I had to take 2 goes at putting the proper cream on it but that’s another story entirely(!)... he’s recovering from the ordeal now and that’s the main thing.

Hillary's thorn was much easier to get out... it was sticking right out of her skin and all it needed was a good yank, it was just enormous though. She managed to stab herself in the side of her ankle with the thorn going down into her leg from above... not sure how she managed it but when I pulled it out (and it was hunkered in there good) it was nearly an inch long! ouch!

Anyway, the windbreak looks a ton better without that tree there and so our thorn-tastic morning's work was all worthwhile.

Much love from the garden on the golden rock...

PS Look out for the next post, I will be putting up some old pics from a few years ago and then some new ones taken this week so you can see how it is all progressing...
