The birds are getting frisky in the garden. There is a whole ton of nest building going on. Bullfinches at it again in the public pavilion, in fact in the end of one of the hammocks… I mean we are surrounded by trees and the only place they can find is in a hammock? We had to remove it because it would get damaged and I didn’t want them to lay their eggs and then have them destroyed… or have Foxy eat them… now they are flying round the pavilion with random bits of twig looking really confused… “I’m sure I left a nest here you know?!”
The humming birds are busy as well. For those who don’t know, they make their nests mostly from spider webs. There is a small crested hummingbird I watched yesterday, he was collecting the webs from under the tables in the pavilion and then taking them to a little spot in the tree next to the firecracker which is a favorite snack of theirs. Well they say, location location location right…
There is also a nest with baby birds right by the house. It’s in one of the Manilla palms. More Bullfinches. You can hear them going crazy when the parents come back with food. They look like they are ready to fledge really soon, they have their proper adult feathers already so they will probably be gone next week.
And as for the thrashers… I’ve had to tie old t-shirts around all my beloved Sour Sops because they are eating all our fruit... we have a small colony of them in the papayas behind the showers and they are messy eaters. I’ve left a few Sour Sops for them but they can’t have them all…
Much love from the garden on the golden rock...
