It has meant that lots of weedwhacking got done this week and the phase 1 is looking very neat and tidy after all the rain. Just in time as well, we had all the board members of DCNA (Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance) come to the garden yesterday for a tour. We walked around the garden and talked about what we do and all that jazz. Then we had some passion fruit juice and some bush tea, all harvested from the garden of course.
It’s been a week of guided tours actually. Our newbies all arrived this week. Four new Volunteers in all, three Americans arrived on Monday, Dan from
I also gave a tour to a Travel writer doing an online guide about Statia. He was really impressed with the garden and our ethos. I gave him lots of background history as well and he congratulated us on a job well done. It’s always nice when you get good comments from people who obviously travel a lot and must see tons of cool stuff. Maybe that means we’re some of that cool stuff?!
It was also Ray’s last week helping out at STENAPA. He has been working with us now for a couple of months in the morning both in the garden and on trails and it’s been great to have him. He’s got pretty good with that weedwhacker and learnt a lot while working in the various areas. He's hoping to help out more in the future and I hope he does too because he’s been a real help to us at the garden.
So I’m going to go and lie under the air conditioner in the ranger’s office, until Jess tells me off that is…
Until next time… much love from the garden on the golden rock.
