Permaculture course done!

So the course is finished and I have my nice shiny new Permaculture design certificate! I am officially now a Permaculturalist! ha ha!

It was a lot of work, each morning was field work, learning and practicing practical skills and then in the evenings was theory work including learning about permaculture principals, horticulture, science, environmental issues, social issues etc until about 9.30-10pm. But of course I was also working at STENAPA in the afternoons so for the last 3 weeks I have been putting in some LONG days! It was worth it though, I learnt a lot and I am already thinking of ways that I can use my new skills and knowledge in work at the garden.

Leo Bakx, who ran the course, will be running it again on Statia in the future so watch this space for details if you are interested in taking part as well.

I have included some pics of the week to show you what we have been up to...

Much love from the garden on the golden rock.

Inoculating wood with mushroom spawn, anyone for oyster mushrooms?

Leo calibrating the Ph reader for the soil and water tests.

The start of our new 'natural' compost bins in the garden.

The nutrient testing results from the soil under the compost heap in the garden. Lots of good stuff there.

The start of the seagrape windbreak at Greenblends.
