Well, it’s a week of endings and new beginnings. Over the last week we have said goodbye to both our garden interns, Analisa last week and Kyle just yesterday. Analisa left her mark in the garden in the form of a giant scrap metal dragonfly. It’s welded from pieces of left over metal that was found at the island dump and she constructed it at Pandt’s welding shop in town with their help.
Kyle also left his mark on the garden with the creation of the medicinal garden. He worked really hard clearing the land, leveling the area, removing all the huge rocks and making beds and planting. He also did a ton of research which we will be using to create signs for the new garden.
We are also bidding farewell to our two current volunteers, Kim and Alex on Saturday. Alex has been with us for two months and has worked really hard and been a great member of the team. Kim has only been with us for one month but has worked really hard and we will miss them both!
Of course it’s also a week of new beginnings and we welcomed a new marine park intern called Coral, of course what else would you do if your name was Coral!! Sam also joined us as the new Botanical Garden intern yesterday so he’s now settling into the new surroundings. I gave him the grand tour today. As we were walking around I was pointing out all the projects we are working on and all the things we have to do, even I’m a little scared now!!
So lots to do and lots to look forward to over the next few months, of course you guys will be the first to know what we’re up to! We will miss Analisa and Kyle but the work they did in the garden will be here for years to come… thank you for everything guys…

Much love from the garden on the golden rock…

Claire Blair
