Wow it's been a while...

Wow, sorry guys, haven’t blogged for a bit, been crazy busy all over the place and so there is loads to tell you about today… bare with me…

Tracy left us over the weekend, she was a fab volunteer and a talented weeder who loved working in the medicinal garden. While she was digging up all the Coralitta up there she was also digging up the past. She found a cool smoking pipe with fantastic detail. It has fluted sides and you can even see the marks where it was cast. She was inspired by this find and with the help of Dan, a fellow volunteer and carpenter extraordinaire, created a display case where we can show off some of our treasures. We will try and find out over the next few weeks what period some of the pieces are from and then we can make labels for the different bits of pottery to go in the case.
Our propagation projects are moving as well. We have also just received our enormous order of soil and pots. Wow, a whole pallet of soil and piles of pots all different sizes. So exciting, I’m already planning all the cuttings, seeds and so on that I’m going to play with over the next few weeks. We have about 4000 trees and plants to produce for the LVV reforestation project and they all have to be in the ground by the end of next year. The native plant project is also still going on as well and so we have a lot to do for that too and… we need some new plants to restock the plant sale which has been doing really well this year. It’s a lot to do but I love looking after my little baby plants so I’m a happy little gardener!
We also have new volunteers… they arrived at the weekend and we’ve already had them starting to dismantle one of the walls in the children’s garden so that we can rebuild it and reinforce it… we are putting a weed barrier underneath the rocks and concreting the bottom larger rocks into place to keep the walls more stable. Well they weeded it, dismantled it and we have almost rebuilt it already, in 3 mornings… busy busy busy… Of course this is all a good excuse for me to do one of my favourite jobs… making concrete… I know, I’m sad but I love it!
AND as if we all that wasn’t enough to keep us busy… summer club starts next week Wednesday… but not before we have 25 kids from the Mega D youth foundation camping out at the garden next week Tuesday… guided hike on Thursday… they say no rest for the wicked… sooo I must be REAL bad… ;))

Much love from the garden on the golden rock…
